Mechanism of Action
The two drugs in Cabenuva® work by interfering with the proteins that HIV needs to replicate, thereby reducing the virus’s ability to infect cells and reproduce.

Cabenuva® offers an innovative alternative to daily pill intake, which has the potential to greatly improve the quality of life of people living with HIV. Many patients have expressed that the obligation to take pills every day significantly affects their well-being. This daily routine can lead to anxiety related to potentially forgetting their medication, the fear of involuntary revelation of their seropositive status to others, or serve as a constant reminder of their condition. By offering the option to have an injection every 2 months, Cabenuva® paves the way for more discreet and less burdensome HIV management.
Contraindications and Side Effects
It is important to note that Cabenuva® is not suitable for everyone. For some people, Cabenuva® might work less effectively than their current treatment. A doctor will evaluate the patient’s therapy, including virus mutations and resistance, before recommending this treatment.
Like all medications, Cabenuva® can have side effects. The most common include temporary pain at the injection site, lack of energy, and headaches; however, these effects are generally well-tolerated and disappear quickly.
